Notes:
- The sail panels can be flat-cut cloth for simplicity.
- For original fittings diagrams and modern adaptations see [not yet available].
- For Rushton's mast & spar diameters and spar suggestions,
see this page.
- For rigging details, like where the lines go, see this
page.
- The Upper Batten will be 1"-2" shorter than other battens to
fit
in its pocket.
Cut it long and fit to suit your sail. It does not attach to the upper
mast fitting.
- The halyard(s) are attached to the Yard so no more than
40-45% of
its length is above the mast's halyard sheaves when the sail is raised.
You want gravity to help keep the Yard vertical.
- To approximate spars for the smallest 3 sails, use:
- Boom and Yard 1" diameter.
- Battens 3/4" diameter.
- Taper to 1/2" at leech if desired.
- For the largest two sails, use:
- Boom and Yard 1-1/4" diameter.
- Battens 7/8" diameter.
- Taper to 1/2" at leech if desired.
- 87sf = Boom/ 2 feet /Reefing Batten/ 2 feet / Lower Batten
- 103sf = Boom/ 2 ft 3 in /Reefing Batten/ 2 ft 3 in / Lower
Batten
- The two largest rigs have an extra reefing batten which
divides
the bottom panel in half.
